I Need Help With Clutter: What Do I Do?
If you’ve found yourself Googling “I need help with clutter”, chances are you’ve reached the point where the clutter is starting to feel like more than just a bit of mess.
Maybe you’re overwhelmed by how much there is, you don’t know where to start, or you’ve tried to tackle it yourself and just can’t seem to get on top of it.
Clutter can affect how you feel about your home and how you feel when you’re in it. But you don’t have to sort it all out on your own.
In this blog, I’ll explain how getting some professional help with clutter can make the process feel much more manageable, what a decluttering session actually involves, and how you can take that first step towards a home that feels calmer and easier to live in.
Clutter Is More Common Than You Think
If you feel like your home is getting on top of you, you’re definitely not alone.
A 2026 UK survey of more than 2,000 adults found that 51% said clutter makes them feel stressed, while 41% said they sometimes feel embarrassed about the state of their home.
Which I think is too low or they are preoccupied or frankly don’t care about it.
And it’s not simply about having a messy house. Research published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology in 2025 found that greater home clutter was associated with lower psychological wellbeing.
So if you’re thinking “I need help with clutter”, there’s absolutely no shame in asking for it.
It’s easier for someone non emotional and ready to get crack on. Besides I don’t live there so it’s easier for me to stay focused on the job at hand.
How Professional Help With Clutter Can Make a Difference
When you’re surrounded by loads of stuff, it can be difficult to know where to begin.
You probably walk into a room and see hundreds of things that don’t “live” there and need to either find a home or get back to the room they should be in. Then the sheer thought of tackling it all can leave you feeling overwhelmed. Which results in closing drawers, doors and saying “not today” for months or years.
Getting professional help with clutter means you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. Having me right there with you can make the process feel more manageable, give you a fresh perspective and help you make progress without feeling like you have to tackle the whole house at once. And honestly, 3 hours plenty to get the ball rolling.
What Does a Decluttering Session Involve?
A professional decluttering service isn’t about someone coming into your home and throwing everything away! As much as I actively encourage that, I’m not a monster.
At Declut, I work together with you to decide what you actually need, use and love, and what you’re ready to let go of. We focus on one area at a time, sorting, decluttering and organising as we go. My three-hour sessions are designed to give you practical, hands-on decluttering help while making sure you remain in control of your belongings and your decisions. The aim isn’t a perfect, minimalist home, it’s a home that feels easier and better for you to live in.
Taking the First Step
If you’ve been thinking “I need help with clutter” but keep putting it off because you don’t know where to start, you don’t have to wait until things get even worse.
You also don’t need to tidy everything before asking for help, that’s exactly what I’m here for! The messier the better so my before and after pictures look transformational.
Whether you have one room, a particularly troublesome cupboard or clutter that has gradually taken over your home, we can start with one manageable area and work from there. Professional decluttering help can be the first step towards creating a home that feels calmer, more organised and much nicer to be in.
